This month in the shop we are featuring our collection of Tuareg jewelry. I guess it was just kismet that last year I was visited by two Tuareg nomads (one from Timbuktu in Mali and one from Niger) who each had heard about my shop from friends in Chicago. Maybe having {nomadic} in the name had something to do with it…but regardless of how they found me, I was smitten. I am in my element when I’m in remote parts of the world searching for treasures in markets and tiny villages, but when those treasures are laid at my feel in my own city, inside my shop…you can probably guess what happened.
I poured over the engraved silver jewelry, smelled all the camel leather bags and tiny coin pouches which were laid out on the floor of my shop. I could imagine myself as part of a caravan of nomads crossing the Sahara. Maybe someday. Here’s a picture of Mohamed at the shop last year.
