“We’ve been planning our outfits all week!” she told me with excitement. Young artists showed work for the first time and mingled with other more seasoned veterans and exchanged their art gallery experiences. The DJ spun records and there was dancing (happily, some Joy Division in the mix!) and conversations as new friends traded their contact info on Instagram. While I hadn’t planned it this way, I suddenly realized our little event at Esquina was serving as exactly what it needed to be. A place to express yourself freely, to engage with all sorts of people, and to encourage some conversations about art, music and what it means to be alive in 2021.
Special thanks to our good friends William and Quiet Pterodactyl for donating merch for the raffle. It felt good sending people home with your records and sharing these important musical projects with a wider audience!
Thanks to everyone who purchased raffle tickets, both in person and virtually!! Your donations go to help spaces like Esquina keep offering community events. And thank you to all the artists and patrons of the arts for supporting the creative community in Chicago! See you at the next event!
