It is almost July 1st, ( now August…see how time flies?!) and while most of us are planning for summer holidays, roadtrips, picnics, BBQs, and lakeside gatherings this is the time of year when I start to think about a different kind of travel plan. Six months from now, I want to be visiting a new country. Will it be a solo trip or one with someone else joining me? Will I want to be in one place or on a multi-country adventure? For me, it is six months out and with no real plans in place that is the most exciting time because nothing is set and everything is possible.

I realized this morning as I walked down Wilson Avenue to my shop that travel is what propelled me to where I am now with my business, not a business plan or a vision for Nomadic Ant. It happened more organically and grew out of my love of travel more than from any real urgency to start a business. My unwillingness to have a plan (a constant in many aspects of my life) has to do with my love for adventure and letting life unfold more slowly, more spontaneously. You can also make more changes along the way when you go with less planned out, which for me is a huge advantage. How then, do I go about making plans for travel if I am so averse to planning travel, you ask?

This is the question I wanted to answer for myself, as well as for you, dear readers, fellow nomad or not. What are the basic steps that take place leading up to a trip and how do we get from thinking about travel to actually making it a reality? In the remaining months of 2019, I will attempt to document this process here in the blog. Hope you’ll come along for the adventure. Who knows where it might lead us?
