It’s true, I had one of those terrible polyester fanny packs back in the day, the neon one we all think of when we hear the awful word suggesting the thing had to be worn over the derriere.  And like everything else, fashion has this way of creeping back to those distant days in search of inspiration every few decades whether we like it or not. My own re-discovery of the now more hip-looking (and hiply-named) hip packs came over a decade ago while I was traveling. I loved having all my stuff in one place, neatly organized in all the  hidden pockets leaving me to be hands-free. Little did I know I’d be carrying leather hip packs at Nomadic Ant in addition to the jewelry collection down the road, but they really are that good.

I wore mine so often (from 2003 until now and still going strong) and raved about how functional they were that people started asking me to bring back more. Now, over a decade later, they are still one of the most sought-after items in our shop. Just today as I was adding the newer leather travel bags to the website a woman came in wearing one she got years ago from us at a festival and was saying how she adores it and how nice they are once they get really worn in. I agreed, knowing that my own hip pack is about 15 years old and has lasted longer than most of my favorite shoes.

Check out this Huffington post article  announcing the return of the fanny pack. We would just like to stop calling them fanny packs and use the name hip pack instead if that’s cool with you HuffPost. Thanks!

Note: Nomadic Ant actually has really little interest in what Jared Leto or anyone else believes is on trend…however we appreciate that the fashion world is finally accepting what we have known for a long time. It isn’t always about fashion, it’s about form and function. Just let us know when we can start wearing our leg warmers again please would ya Jared!
