One of my favorite records when I was a teen in the mid 80’s was Prince and the Revolution’s album Around the World in a Day. I spent hours listening to that record and reading along with the lyrics found on the sleeve of the album. The music and words painted a vivid picture of a world I wanted to visit and be a part of despite at times feeling there was a strange sadness in it. That record evoked every emotion in my young soul, from laughter and wonder to questioning inequalities and the darker side of humanity. It influenced so much of the way I thought about the world, even though at the time I may not have realized it. Somehow over the years my record went missing. Maybe I let someone borrow it or maybe it was put away in the wrong album jacket and sold at a garage sale by mistake…whatever happened to it remains a mystery. After the death of Prince earlier this year I started to revisit my collection of his music and decided I had to purchase the record again. This month at our BYOVinyl I will insist we play this album in its entirety. Please come hang out, bring some of your most influential records and share some music with all of us over at the Ant!
